What is Chiropractic

Q: What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a healing discipline firmly grounded in science. Although its main focus is the relationship between the skeleton (particularly the spine) and the nervous system that runs through it, chiropractic is concerned with the care of the entire body.

Q: Do chiropractors treat disease?

Chiropractors do not treat disease. Our purpose is to remove spinal nerve stress, a serious and often painless condition most people have in their bodies. Spinal nerve stress interferes with the proper functioning of the nervous system, can weaken internal organs and organ systems, lower resistance, reduce healing potential and set the stage for sickness and disorders of all kinds.

When a chiropractor frees the nervous system from spinal stress, the healing power of the body is unleashed: the immune system functions more efficiently, resistance to disease increases, and your body functions more efficiently.

So although our patrons often come to us with diseases, we are not treating their diseases but is instead freeing them of spinal nerve stress, thus permitting their body's natural healing potential to function at its best.

Q: What is spinal nerve stress?

Spinal nerve stress, or subluxation, is a misalignment or distortion of the spinal column, skull, hips, and related tissues (the structural system) that irritate, stretch, impinge or otherwise interfere with the proper function of the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, spinal nerves and outlying or peripheral nerves). Since the nervous system controls the function of the body, any interference to it can have wide-ranging effects. The effects of postural imbalances and structural misalignments in our bodies over time can lead to pain, stiffness or more serious problems.

Q: How does chiropractic care correct spinal nerve stress?

Chiropractors use various diagnostic methods including x-rays and hand palpation to identify the state of the spine and bone structure. Where the spinal column is found to be functioning improperly, the chiropractor performs the precise spinal adjustments. These adjustments are accomplished by using his/her hands and/or specialized instruments to gently and specifically correct the spinal nerve stress.

Q: What are the benefits of chiropractic care?

The benefits of chiropractic care are subject to each individual's own experience. Below lists a few of the proven common research findings:

  • More energy
  • Improved concentration
  • Improved cognitive function
  • Postural and body mechanic improvements
  • Increased body physical range of motion
  • Reduced pain (ie headaches, migraines, TMJs, etc)
  • Faster return to work post physical injuries
  • Emotional balance
  • Improved breathing difficulties (ie shortness of breath, chest pain)
  • Restful sleep
  • Spinal and structural stability
  • Improved immune system against flu or cold symptoms
  • Speed healing of joints
